Why do the Yanks get all the fun?

First Cochella and now this? Still I'm tipping Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine for Big Day Out. Let the 90's reformations continue - bring back Ace of Bass!

Oh and the image is unrelated Rinzen brilliance - check out their new website, always doing amazing work.

Great Moments in YouTube

Okay so the title is a little lame but whatever. Now that I have worked out how to post Youtube vids I hope to make this a regular thing. To kick things off is sweet video for one of those 'nu-rave' bands called Shit Disco. The song is okay - but the video is up there with Michel Gondry's genius.

A Rich Tapestry

Just thought I would post a collage of photos taken over the past few months. Things you can spot in there included some shots of the Harbour Bridge walk - complete with everyone in stupid green hats (apparently some people actually sold theirs on ebay), shots from Andy C (haven't danced that much in a long time), Laneway Festival, Good Vibes, The Roots and a live painting by Fafi. There is also a whole bunch of random pics - just me trying to be 'arty'.

Not pictured there but also of note was a recent visit to the first annual Sydney V Festival. Was a perfect day for it with the biggest drag being the ridiculous drink cues. Manged to catch Phoenix, Gnarls Barkley, 2 Many Djs, The Rapture, New Young Pony Club, Beck, Jarvis Cocker, Groove Armada & The Pixes. Rapture were the highlight but only Gnarls Barkley struggled in a live environment.

In regards to other beats there is always heaps of sweet stuff to check out including; new Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, NIN, Funk Oars while the latest Groove Armada is a little weak compared to thier earlier beats - some strong singles though.

Finally was alerted to another sweet internet radio station right here - PigRadio - its run by a bunch of Italians - I thought they all liked euro trance and hard house?!

That's all till I can be fucked again.....

Quick and painless

So after yet another shameful absence I have decided to post a few ramblings. Firstly want to say big up to Dave Tran who recently dropped into Sydney on a whirlwind tour. You can check out his blog on the links on the right. The gorgeous Emma has also been on the move - travelling to New York for two and half weeks. You can check out pics of her trip at her MySpace which is also linked on the right, you can see what -12 C look like!

Next up I got a sweet web radio station a little bird told me about. Head over too
Viva Radio to check out a sweet selection full of all kinds of random beats. You can also download the player for easy access. Make sure you click on the 'Contributors' tab on the bottom left - this lets you browse archived play lists. In other music news - new albums buy the Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, The Klaxons have all dropped or are about to, they all come highly recommended.

In terms of live music I recently checked out the Good Vibes and St Jerome's Laneway Festival. Good Vibes was massive in every way. 40,000 people, Snoop Dogg as the surprise guest and 35 degree weather. Defiantly the best festival I have been too inside Centennial Park and Snoop wore a Souths jersey (above) - too good. The Laneway festival was just the opposite - small setting at the The Rocks near Circular Quay, indie bands and working phone reception (mainly due to the small crowd). While the sound was rather poor still a great way to spend a summery Sunday listening to Camera Obscura, Peter, Bjorn and John and The Sleepy Jackson. Hope to be attending both again next year - being the festival whore I am.
That's all for now - will post some new pics and vids soon. Will try to keep post's smaller and more frequent. So to my millions of readers - till next time...

Just checking in...

Its been a long time between posts. This just a quick one to draw attention to the fact that I have put a whole new set of pictures up on my Flickr account. There is all types of rubbish in there including a few live gigs I have been too and some random shots of shizzle I have liked the look of. There is also a few stray images of some friends of mine (you know who you are) having a little too much fun on a pedestrian bridge somewhere in North Sydney. Thanks to SJ for the photos.

I would also like to thank the people who sponsored me for Movember. I managed to raise over $100, so that was nice.

I would also like to point out that the above picture is not of me but of my mate SJ who as you can tell is not camera shy.

Will post something a little more interesting soon.

Movember call out!

Howdy all this is a quick post to ask for sponsors for my movember endeavour. Please note that the above image is only an artists impression of how my moe will turn out. Here is a little blurb and the necessary link: Male health is a major issue, did you know:
  1. Men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy of males is 6 years less than females.
  2. Every year in Australia 2,700 men die of prostate cancer – more than the number of women who die from breast cancer.
  3. Depression affects 1 in 6 men…Most don’t seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide. Rates of suicide are more than double the national road toll.

Help me change the face of men’s health by sponsoring my mo.

Please go to http://www.movember.com/au/sponsor, enter my Rego number which is 48832 and your credit card details. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.

The money raised by Movember will be used to change the face of men's health by creating awareness and funding research into prostate cancer and male depression.

Thanks in advance, your doing a great thing and making more men look like John Holmes or Chopper, or a combination of both.

Television, the drug of a nation....

Here I present a collection of shows that y’all should be watching if have the time. Most have been running for some time but this doesn’t meant it is too late to get into some idiot box action. I don’t know about you but recently I have found that TV has become a more interesting and challenging medium that movies, or perhaps the budgets of TV shows have gone up. No matter the reason, here is what I'm feeling:

1. Heroes: A brand new show which has just begun in the US on NBC (show in image above). It focuses on a collection of people from the USA and Asia who are slowly coming to terms with the fact that they all have special powers. From reading peoples minds to instant regeneration. While it sounds cheesy, the combination of solid action and twists and turns makes it a modern, more realistic X-men.

2. Battlestar Galactica: True nerd would know that this a remake of a classic 70’s sci-fi show known for its shiny suits and vasaline lens in which humans are at war with a robot race of their creation. This new version is exactly the opposite. The look is now gritty and the camera shakes and zooms like a music video. This all ads to the polish of the world, which is filled with flawed characters and confronting situations. The show analyses its main theme of war with intensity and the plot lines and settings move frequently which ad to its class.

3. The Sopranos: Like every great mob movie boiled down into a deep, dark and often funny TV show that looks at the perils of being an American mobster in this day and age. The fact that is on HBO is also a big plus as it allows for all the sex, violence and drugs of that life to be shown in glowing detail. The show is also given extra depth by a well balanced use of dreams and metaphor.

4.Extras: Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant can do not wrong (well except for those stand ups, they were a little iffy). This show just stands as proof. Its second season has just finished in the UK and is an example of how comedy in this age should be done. Following the career of an actor who mostly does extra’s or background work on films, the show combines a mountain of awkward moments and social errors with a cast of celebrities often taking the piss out of themselves. Proof that that the famous can laugh at themselves and that there is hope for the comedy genre yet, at least in the UK.

Also on that list is Lost, but thats old news. Do your self a favour and check the above.

Finally got the chance to check out U2 in concert as the pictures above show, and while they are taken on a shitting phone camera they go some way to capturing the size of the light and visual show on offer. Bono did begin to grate after a while with his rock god/saviour of the people posturing but the songs where so damn good you just didn’t care or simply blocked it out. They also get extra props for playing Arcade Fire full volume right before they came on.

A special mention goes to Kanye West who came out while the sun was still up and did his very best with a bunch of white middle aged rock fans. He even played ‘Never Be Alone’ by Justice vs. Simian, how very ironic.
