Television, the drug of a nation....

Here I present a collection of shows that y’all should be watching if have the time. Most have been running for some time but this doesn’t meant it is too late to get into some idiot box action. I don’t know about you but recently I have found that TV has become a more interesting and challenging medium that movies, or perhaps the budgets of TV shows have gone up. No matter the reason, here is what I'm feeling:
1. Heroes: A brand new show which has just begun in the US on NBC (show in image above). It focuses on a collection of people from the USA and Asia who are slowly coming to terms with the fact that they all have special powers. From reading peoples minds to instant regeneration. While it sounds cheesy, the combination of solid action and twists and turns makes it a modern, more realistic X-men.
2. Battlestar Galactica: True nerd would know that this a remake of a classic 70’s sci-fi show known for its shiny suits and vasaline lens in which humans are at war with a robot race of their creation. This new version is exactly the opposite. The look is now gritty and the camera shakes and zooms like a music video. This all ads to the polish of the world, which is filled with flawed characters and confronting situations. The show analyses its main theme of war with intensity and the plot lines and settings move frequently which ad to its class.
3. The Sopranos: Like every great mob movie boiled down into a deep, dark and often funny TV show that looks at the perils of being an American mobster in this day and age. The fact that is on HBO is also a big plus as it allows for all the sex, violence and drugs of that life to be shown in glowing detail. The show is also given extra depth by a well balanced use of dreams and metaphor.
4.Extras: Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant can do not wrong (well except for those stand ups, they were a little iffy). This show just stands as proof. Its second season has just finished in the UK and is an example of how comedy in this age should be done. Following the career of an actor who mostly does extra’s or background work on films, the show combines a mountain of awkward moments and social errors with a cast of celebrities often taking the piss out of themselves. Proof that that the famous can laugh at themselves and that there is hope for the comedy genre yet, at least in the UK.
Also on that list is Lost, but thats old news. Do your self a favour and check the above.

I'm definitely with you on "Heroes" .. it's a struggle to keep up with it all each week, but well worth it ... I'm also devoted to Everyone Hates Chris, Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars, and will watch Studio 60 until NBC inevitably pulls the plug
